Most dental plans have waiting periods for major services. At Spirit, we don’t believe in waiting periods! Our dental plans provide you with access and immediate savings to get to the dentist to take care of your oral health when you need it.
Check out the different ways you’ll save with dental crowns and other major services with a Spirit plan.
A dental crown typically requires two visits, but same-day crowns may also be available. Here's what the process looks like:
1. The dentist prepares the affected tooth by removing part of the outer layer.
2. The dentist makes an impression of the tooth and the surrounding area to ensure a secure fit for the permanent crown.
3. A temporary crown is installed.
4. The impression is sent to a lab to create the permanent crown (may take weeks).
5. Return to the dentist for placement of the permanent crown.

Dental crowns are one of the most common dental procedures. They can be used to treat tooth decay if the cavity is too big for a filling, root canals and chipped teeth.1
Crowns help make teeth stronger, more durable and ultimately healthier. They’re also considered a relatively simple procedure, and people report not experiencing any pain during the process to help ease any worries you may have.
How long do dental crowns last?
Dental crowns can last around 5-15 years. Good dental care will help crowns keep their look and durability longer.
Deductible: Spirit offers a lifetime deductible of $100 before your benefits begin. Unlike other dental plans with annual deductibles, you only pay it once with Spirit.
Coinsurance: Coinsurance is the split cost between what the plan pays and what you pay.
Annual max: The annual maximum for dental insurance is the amount of money the plan will pay in a given year. Once the annual maximum is reached (taken from coinsurance), you'll pay the rest out-of-pocket.
Crown maintenance
Once your dental crown is secured, a good dental care routine is essential for longevity:
- Brush twice daily
- Floss at least once a day
- Get a dental cleaning every six months or more
- Avoid teeth grinding
What are other out-of-pocket expenses to consider?
Can I see any dentist to get a dental crown?
Most general dentists can perform a dental crown procedure. However, under complex circumstances, you may be referred to an endodontist who specializes in the roots of teeth.
I'm so grateful I found out about Spirit Dental. It was the only plan I could find that had a ‘no waiting period.’ Everyone I've ever encountered at Spirit Dental has been professional, knowledgeable, and friendly. I highly recommend this company.

Covered expenses will not include and benefits will not be payable for expenses incurred:
- To replace any crowns, inlays, onlays, veneers, complete or partial dentures within five years of the date of the last placement of these items. But if a replacement is required because of an accidental bodily injury sustained while the insured person is covered under this contract, it will be a covered expense.
- For initial placement of any dental prosthesis or prosthetic crown unless such placement is needed because of the extraction of one or more teeth while the insured person is covered under this contract. But the extraction of a third molar (wisdom tooth) will not qualify under the above. Any such appliance or fixed partial denture must include the replacement of the extracted tooth or teeth
- For any treatment which is for cosmetic purposes.
ALTERNATIVE PROCEDURES: When one or more dental procedures can be used to treat a dental condition, the plan benefit will be for the least costly procedure. You may apply this benefit amount toward the payment of the selected treatment.
